Demigods

Demigods are a broad category of mortals who exist in Elysium, set apart from most humans by some manner of direct connection to the Gods.

The most typical instances of demigods are blessed humans and clones, but half-gods also exist in the setting's expanded works.

Blessed humans

In certain cases, mortal humans earn the favour of the Gods and are blessed with unique modifications that raise them above human limitations. The most typical of these are holy cyborgs, such as the Cerberus Cadre, exhibiting exceptional strength and reflexes along with cosmetic modifications such as hue-shifting nanocarbon skin. Additionally, some citizens hail from bloodlines blessed with genetic modifications, such as Herakles.

Mortals blessed in these ways are generally held in high regard, often taking up their own rung in society above most people. Many hold esteemed positions, including honoured pilots, military captains, and even rockstar celebrities.

Clones

Main article: Clones of Demeter

The Marks exist in Elysium as a social underclass. They lack citizenship, and their only legal protections are those relating to the contracts of their trade. Despite their social position, they often exhibit extraordinary abilities: Marks Two capable of growing plant life from their bodies at will; Marks Three meanwhile are holy cyborgs enhanced with superhuman strength and reflexes.

Half-Gods

Note: this section concerns worldbuilding unique to certain parts of the Gunmetal Olympus expanded setting, and (thus far) has not appeared in the "main series" works of Maria Ying.

Under incredibly rare circumstances, mortals are born as partial descendants of divinity. Such births are generally impossible, as the Gods are incapable of typical reproduction.

Half-gods are hardier than mortals, with an unnaturally high regeneration factor and the ability to survive outside Elysium's dome without protection. They also tend to exhibit similar unique powers to their divine parent.

There are currently only two established half-gods, appearing in the Giantslayer Trilogy and Madness in Her Art.
